Welcome to another wrap-up. I know I’m a little late in writing this but the books I read last month deserve to be mentioned. I am happy that inspite of an average month, I managed to read diverse books. Without furthur ado, let’s revisit my September.
Books I Read this month
Milk Teeth by Amrita Mahale ★★★
This is a story of two childhood friends Ira and Kartik who reunite after 13 years on the terrace of Asha Niwas. Going down the memory lane, Ira and Kartik rekindles their friendship and cherish their comfort around each other. Together, they discover love but not for each other. On the surface, this book also talks about the changing face of Bombay and the aftermath of urbanisation on the people of Asha Niwas who are unwilling to move on. Buy this book on Amazon.
Erotic Stories for Punjabi Windows by Balli Kaur Jaswal ★★★★
This has been one of my favourite books of the month. Nikki is a college dropout who starts giving writing sessions to Punjabi widows. Through their stories, the widows relive their fantasies and rekindle the fire latent within them. Women emancipation at its core this is such a fun book to read. Buy this book on Amazon
Ghachar Ghochar by Vivek Shanbhag ★★★★.5
This is a short novella translated from Kannada. It is about a family who acquires wealth and then the family dynamics changes. The captivating plot, the writing of the book within such a short span of pages is commendable. Buy this book on Amazon.
We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie ★★★★★
This essay needs no introduction. Chimamanda has a flair for delivering poignant narratives. I think it is of the rare gems which needs to read by all. Buy this book on Amazon
Dopehri by Pankaj Kapur ★★★★.5
Daughter. Wife. Mother. Grandmother. Women play different roles throughout their lives. Their roles take priority on themselves and their individuality is buried deep inside their core. Dopehri (Hindi word for Afternoon) leaves us with such thoughts to mull over and introspect ourselves rekindling the spark that is latent within us. Buy this book on Amazon.
Kintsugi by Anukrti Upadhyay ★★★★
From the architectural beauty of Jaipur to the lofty mountains of Japan, this book is a unique blend of both. It is a story of women who are challenging the popular norms of the society. Buy this book on Amazon.
Women At Point Zero by Nawaal El Saadawi ★★★★
Some books stay with you for a long time and this is one of them. It is a story of Firdaus who is sentenced to death for killing a man. She doesn’t speak to anyone except El Saadawi to whom she narrates her journey. It is an unputdownable book. Buy this book on Amazon
Trigger Warnings: Rape, Physical assault

September Milestones
I hit 1k followers on Instagram. It felt like a faraway dream when I decided to revive Book & Corner but here we are. Thanks for supporting us throughout.
Book of the Month
It is very difficult to choose one but if I am brutally honest I think Women At Point Zero by Nawaal El Saadawi wins. The literary style, the emotions portrayed, the message of the book that the author tries to convey everything is brilliant. At no point I felt the book plummeted down given the theme of the book is highly sensitive.
Books I am Currently Reading
I am juggling between The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Girl in White Cotton by Avni Doshi.
Have you read any of these books? Has September been kind to you? How has your reading been this September? Any particular book you enjoyed? Leave a link of your wrap-ups below.
