It has been a long time since I have done a Book Tag. So, when I saw this interesting tag over at URL Phantomhive about reading habits, I had to share mine.
Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
I’m a lazy reader. I like to lie down on my bed with some scented candles around me or may be a blanket if it starts getting colder.
Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?
I am very particular about this one. I can never stop in the middle of a chapter. Only in certain conditions when the chapters are exceptionally long, I mark my progress on Goodreads and stop.
Bookmark or random piece of paper?
Random piece of paper. My bookmark ranges from scrunchies to arbitrary things lying around me. I own some pretty bookmarks though I can never muster up the courage to use them regularly. Do you feel the same kind of possessiveness towards your bookmarks?
Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
I’m terrible at multitasking. While reading I like to concentrate on every word that is written. With music or TV, I feel distracted and don’t connect with the book. I end up re-reading lines because I feel like I missed something.
Do you eat or drink while reading?
I like to drink tea but very carefully when I’m reading. I don’t want to spill it all over my book. I destroyed my copy of Murder of Roger Ackroyd because I accidentally spilt a soft drink on it. Henceforth, I’m cautious. Has this ever occurred with you?
Reading at home or everywhere?
I like to read at home because of the obvious comfort I feel. It puts me in a leisurely mood. This is one of the things I like about 2020. Usually, I read on my commute, during my lunch breaks at work and any other free time I get outside of staying at home.
One book at a time or several at once?
I am generally a one-book at a time person. But it totally depends on the book too. Sometimes the book is a page-turner. I finish it before moving forward which I always prefer.
But, sometimes the book starts slow which in turn makes my reading even slower. Then, I need to pick up another book to keep the pace going. Does this happen to you?
Reading out loud or silently in your head?
Silently in my head. I never knew there was another option because I share my room with my sister. She would freak out if I start reading aloud and spoil the book for her.
Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
No, never. I don’t read ahead. I don’t like to miss even the tiniest detail of the story. Reading ahead not only spoils the book for me but also demotivate me to move forward having known the destination.
But I do skip paragraphs, not pages if it doesn’t appeal to me. The possibility of this thing happening is very low and a red flag for me that the book isn’t going well.
Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
Older books don’t remain the same. Spines break. That’s the reality. But I don’t play any part in disrupting the spines on the first attempt itself. My Harry Potter books are just not the same anymore because of the countless times they have been read and not only by me.
Do you write in your books?
I don’t. I can’t. I won’t. Even till this date I can’t mark in my books. There are snippets I like, paragraphs which resonate with me but never have I ever marked them in my books. Do you feel me?
Do you feel the same about any of the prompts mentioned above? If this tag interests you, consider yourself tagged. Please feel free to share your reading habits, or let me know in the comments!
